چکیده

We investigate prerequisites for developing a continuous wave NIRS bedside brain perfusion monitor. Based on the separation of superficial and cortical layers using 3D HR-DOT we investigate the power and distribution of low frequency oscillations in the brain and scalp. © 2012 Optical Society of America OCIS: (170.6960) Tomography; (170.2655) Functional monitoring and imaging

Multi-subject and multi-task experimental validation of the hierarchical Bayesian diffuse optical tomography algorithm

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is an emerging technology for improving the spatial resolution and spatial specificity of conventional multi-channel near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) by the use of high-density measurements and an image reconstruction algorithm. We recently proposed a hierarchical Bayesian DOT algorithm that allows for accurate simultaneous reconstruction of scalp and cortical ...

Blind identification of evoked human brain activity with independent component analysis of optical data.

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) methods observe hemodynamics in the brain by measuring light transmission through the scalp, skull, and brain. Thus, separating signals due to heart pulsations, breathing movements, and systemic blood flow fluctuations from the desired brain functional responses is critical to the fidelity of the derived maps. Herein, we applied independent component analysis (I...

Brain Specificity of Diffuse Optical Imaging: Improvements from Superficial Signal Regression and Tomography

Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a portable monitor of cerebral hemodynamics with wide clinical potential. However, in fNIRS, the vascular signal from the brain is often obscured by vascular signals present in the scalp and skull. In this paper, we evaluate two methods for improving in vivo data from adult human subjects through the use of high-density diffuse optical tomography...

Physiological System Identification with the Kalman Filter in Diffuse Optical Tomography

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is a noninvasive imaging technology that is sensitive to local concentration changes in oxy- and deoxyhemoglobin. When applied to functional neuroimaging, DOT measures hemodynamics in the scalp and brain that reflect competing metabolic demands and cardiovascular dynamics. Separating the effects of systemic cardiovascular regulation from the local dynamics is vi...

Simulation study of magnetic resonance imaging-guided cortically constrained diffuse optical tomography of human brain function.

Diffuse optical imaging can measure brain activity noninvasively in humans through the scalp and skull by measuring the light intensity modulation arising from localized-activity-induced absorption changes within the cortex. Spatial resolution and localization accuracy are currently limited by measurement geometry to approximately 3 cm in the plane parallel to the scalp. Depth resolution is a m...
